FDA Invalidated Registration
Why FDA Registrations Become Inactive?
An invalidated FDA food facility registration occurs when a foreign facility fails to secure an active, confirmed US Agent, or when the appointed US Agent declines or ignores the verification request.
A canceled registration occurs when a registration is explicitly terminated by the FDA due to administrative issues, such as duplication or incorrect data, or when it is canceled by an authorized account user due to facility closure or ownership changes.
FDA removes a registration completely from the active database if a facility fails to complete its mandatory biennial renewal between October 1 and December 31 of an even-numbered year, though the FDA will allow the facility to reclaim and reassign its original registration number if they perform a formal re-registration.
Because the FDA does not issue automatic warning notices for these status changes, most companies only discover their non-compliance when US Customs and Border Protection detains their shipments at the port of entry under misbranding violations, which leads to costly delays.
If you need assistance with a new FDA registration or re-registration of an invalidated facility registration, please complete our online form. LMG will issue a registration certificate (PDF) after completing the registration for your records.
Frequently Asked Questions
What causes an FDA registration to be invalidated?
Can an invalidated registration be restored?
An invalidated FDA registration cannot be reactivated. If your registration was invalidated due to a missed renewal or a U.S. Agent who refused or did not confirm the appointment, you must submit a completely new registration. The FDA will then assign you a new registration number.
