Why FDA invalidate my food facility registration number?

FDA invalidated the registration numbers of food facilities that did not complete 2016 biennial renewal. Foreign food facilities must appoint a US FDA Agent at the time of registration / renewal. FDA will contact the US Agent and confirm the appointment. If the US FDA Agent does not accept or confirm the appointment FDA will invalidate the registration.

Invalidated registrations cannot re-activate. If FDA invalidate your existing registration due to non-renewal or US Agent refusal you should go with new registration and will get a new registration number.

FDA will not send invalidation e-mail or letter to food facilities, most of them will realize this only after the US Customs (CBP) detain the shipment. To avoid detention, importer / exporter need to contact the manufacturer and make sure the FDA registration status is active.
