FDA Registration for Fruit & Fruit Products

Fruit product manufacturers (canned fruit, juices, jams, jellies) must register food facilities with FDA. FDA food facility registration is required for all domestic and foreign fruit & fruit products manufacturers selling in the United States.

FDA Requirements for Fruit & Fruit Products

Fruit product manufacturers must comply with FDA labeling and, for juice products, HACCP juice regulations (21 CFR Part 120).

  • FDA Food Facility Registration — biennial renewal required
  • US FDA Agent — mandatory for all foreign food facilities
  • DUNS / UFI Number — required for all FDA food registrations
  • FSMA compliance — Preventive Controls or Produce Safety rule
  • Biennial renewal October 1–December 31 of even-numbered years

Fruit and fruit products includes

Fresh fruits and fruit juices – including only raw fruits, citrus, melons, and berries, and home-prepared “ades” and punches made there from.

Home-prepared jams and jellies – including only home-prepared jams, jellies, fruit butters, preserves, and sweet spreads

Jams and jellies, commercial – including only commercially processed jams, jellies, fruit butters, preserves, and sweet spreads. Processed fruits and fruit juices – including all commercially processed fruits, citrus, berries, and mixtures; salads, juices and juice punches, concentrates, dilutions, “ades”, and drink substitutes made therefrom.

Other – Sweet sauces, toppings, and syrups, including chocolate, berry, fruit, corn syrup, and maple sweet sauces and toppings.
